The Great Gatsby (Evergreens) Paperback – October 20, 2016 by F. Scott Fitzgerald (Alma Classics)

The Great Gatsby's story took place in the 1920s in East Egg and West Egg in New York . A man named Jay Gatsby was in love with Daisy Buchanan. While Gatsby was in WWI, Daisy got married to a man named Tom Buchanan, because she thought Gatsby had died in the war. After Gatsby returned from WWI, he found out that his love got married. Throughout the story, Gatsby and Daisy wanted to get their relationship back, but it was very complicated. Gatsby wanted Daisy to tell her husband "I never loved you" , but she was not sure if she could do it.

The story starts off slowly, but by the end of the book, the story is very suspenseful, and makes you want to know what is going to happen in the next chapter. Love, money, and sexiness are the major themes throughout the story. The love and emotions in this story are felt very deeply by the characters. The characters were very complicated, and it was difficult to tell who the main character in the book was. The book is written like Daisy's cousin Nick is telling the story, but the story really isn't about Nick at all. The story is mainly about Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan's love, and we understand the story through Nick's eyes. The characters were also complicated because they each had a different secret.

In general, The Great Gatsby was my favorite book that I've read in English. The ending has a surprising change in the story that you wouldn't ever guess. F. Scott Fitzgerald is very talented in how he writes about the themes and the characters in The Great Gatsby. The story also does a great job representing American culture in the 1920s, including new money, prohibition, big bright parties with jazz music, and secrets everywhere. I recommend this book to people who like stories and they are in their 20s or 30s.
